1000th road accident
The Christchurch St John Ambulance Brigade last evening attended its 1000th road accident for the year. This is greater than for the whole of last year, when 989 accidents were attended.
The figure of 1000 includes only accidents from which patients were taken to hospital by a St John
ambulance—it does not include accidents attended where the patient was taken to hospital by some other means, or was not seriously enough hurt to require hospital treatment So far this year, St John ambulances have attended road accidents in which 35 persons have died. In the whole of 1970, ambulances attended 38 fatal accidents. To the end of October, 1283 persons injured in road accidents in and around Christchurch have been taken to hospital by ambulance. The figure for 1970 was 1361. The statistics include accidents on the Akaroa highway, roads west of Christchurch, and other country areas.
