“Tea Dress” contest
What is a tea dress? It is the kind of outfit the girl of today puts on for a “tea rave.” It may be a long or short dress, short pants or long pants or a caftan—something she has probably made and designed herself to express her own ideas of fashion, says Mrs Tam Hill, promoter and judge of the “Tea Dress” Contest. “A ‘tea rave’? Well, that is a party for young people who sit on the floor to listen to records and try out new tea drinks.” Results of the area finals of the contest, held in Christchurch last evening, were.— Christine Dowrick, aged 16, Westland High School, 1; Gwenda Baker, 15, Timaru Girls’ High School, 2; Anne Cunningham, 16, St Mary’s College, 3; Andrea Philpot, 15, Hilimorton High School, 4.
