“Blind leading the blind”

(N.Z. Press Association) MELBOURNE, Sept. 2. A 19-year-old transcript typist from Melbourne says that lack of sex education during adolescence was having a serious effect on the lives of blind people and in more ways than one it is a case of “the blind leading the blind.” Miss Gina Hinds, who is totally blind herself, said blind women grew up almost totally ignorant of contraception, childbirth and basic sexual facts. “As a result some young girls run a mile when paid a compliment by a boy while others are being taken advantage of through their own ignorance.” She said blind people did not receive sex education at school, they did not have biology or science on their curriculum and the books of sexual instruction at the braille library were “hopelessly inadequate.”
