Waimairi tip
■ Sir,—l wish to protest 1 strongly at the 100 per cent 1 increase in charges made by ' the Waimairi County Coun--1 cil for dumping rubbish at 1 the tip. All Waimairi rate--1 payers should surely have : free use of their own facility. ' This could easily be done by • ratepayers paying the tip fee, I retaining the tickets, and, when paying their rates, present the tickets for a refund. Several of my ratepayer friends have also expressed '■ their ire at this exorbitant 1 increase in the fee.—Yours, ! etc., 1 RATEPAYER. ; May 13, 1971. I [Mr D. B. Rich, chairman iof the Waimairi County . Council, replies: “The council i gave careful consideration to
I the question before increasing the fees payable for dumping at the council’s refuse pit Increased costs of wages and plant operation made it essential for increased charges to be made, and the council is of the opinion that the ‘user-pay’ basis is the fairest. The system suggested, by your correspondent means that the ratepayer would ultimately meet the costs involved. I do not consider the charge of 10 cents a boot-load or 20 cents a trailer-load is a high charge for disposal of this quantity of refuse.”]
