Übleis continued to hold the No. 1 position as th* world harness driving championship moved past the halfway mark at Blue Bonnets Raceway, Montreal. Vi. Haughton of the United State* headed the field at th* Montreal track with a win, two seconds and a third—good foe 112 points in the series—but his total of 363 is still far from the 526 points Übleis now has. Last year, H. Fllion (Canada) won the championship with <7O points toe the series. Übleis started th* series winning all thro* events at Roosevelt Raceway, New York. "tlWels 3 failed two nights later at Rosecroft Raceway, In Maryland. but came back to win three race* at Saratoga on May 7 and two at Toronto’s Greenwood track last Saturday. The young Austrian soared from last place to first with Offlcers’s Attack for his lone win at Blue Bonnets. New Zealand’s P. Wolfenden is third in th* serie*, with 210 points, followed by FOion, with 177 points. Australia’s G. Rothaker Is fifth with 136. J. R. Gougeon is next, with 13*. and K. Buer, of Norway has 107. Italy’s C. Ossanl follow* with 10* points. Wolfenden won the third race on the Blue Bonnets 10-race programme an Opeongo,. and Gougeon gained his first win of the series In the fourth race driving Chacoal Lady to victon. barely shading Haughton at the wire. The next stop in th* ninetrack. 30-race series is Hazel Park Raceway, In Detroit, Michigan. The winner of each race gets 30 pointe to -count towards the championship.
