Money to spend, nowhere to go
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. This year’s Air New Zealand overseas road cycling tour might be in jeopardy. There seems little doubt that the company is eager and willing to continue sponsoring this annual overseas venture.
The problem facing the Amateur Cycling Association is where to send its riders.
For several years the N.ZA.C.A. has sent a team to compete in the Examiner Tour of Tasmania. However, the association has been told that the tour might be cancelled this year. New Caledonia has been asked if it might be possible to send the team there. As yet no reply has been received. ANOTHER CABLE
Tasmanian and New South Wales officials have also been approached. It is considered essential to New Zealand cycling that the sport does not lose Air New Zealand sponsorship, and the association council is to send another cable to New Caledonia. The national final is scheduled to be held in Wellington on the week-end of July 10.
The national selectors have nominated B. White, of Auckland, to compete in the Tour of Scotland in August. Two other New Zealanders, B. Biddle and B. Beeston, are already in England and are likely to race in the tour.
