CYCLING TITLES

Chch likely venue

“The Press’* Special Service WELLINGTON. The possibility of holding the 1973-74 hard-track and road race cycling championships in Christchurch was discussed at a meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association council this week.

Mr H. R. Dutton, cycling controller for the 1974 Commonwealth' Games, said that it was the wish of Games organisers that individual sports hold dress rehearsals before the Games. The convener of the national selectors, Mr C. J. Hollows, suggested that the 1973-74 road race championship be held in Christchurch in late December, 1973, and the hard-track championships start on January 4, 1974. The New Zealand cycling team for the Games could be chosen immediately after the championships and be kept in Christchurch to train until the Games started in late January, said Mr Hollows. The meeting took no action on Mr Hollows’s suggestion.
