Roller-skating To Chesmars
The Chesmar brothers, John and Paul, proved far too good for the rest of the field in the fourth annual Rollerdrome 50mile roller-skating classic, held at Hornby on Saturlay evening. After keeping constant pressure on the three-times winner of the event, W. Begg (Timaru), the brothers went clear, John winning in a time only 6min outside the record.
Miss R. Alexander easily won her second women’s 25-mile race from Misses B. Rushton and N. Littleton.
Junior skaters were given a five-mile mixed race. The winner was P. Maxwell, who beat Miss K. Treloar by a lap with T. Clapp third another half-lap back. Results were:
Girls. —Five miles: K. Treloar (Rollerdrome). 16:58.4, 1, L. Maxwell (Rollerdrome) 2. M. Maxwell (Rollerdrome 3. Boys.—Five miles: P. Maxwell (Rollerdrome). 16:35.0, 1. T. Clapp (Rollerdrome) 2. M. McCarthy (Rollerdrome) 3. Women. Twenty-five miles: R Alexander (Rollerdronie), 1:22:41, 1. B. Rushton (Canterbury) 2, N. Littleton (Timaru) 3.
Men. —Fifty miles: J. Chesmar (Rollerdrome), 2:52:53.3, 1; P. Chesmar (Rollerdrome) 2, W. Begg (Timaru) 3. D. Horwell (Rollerdrome) 4, B. Miller (Timaru) 5.
