Sky-divers Set Two Records
A six-man team from the Canterbury Sky-diving Club made 222 jumps at the Wigram airfield bn Saturday to break the New Zealand record for the number of jumps in one day. This easily beat the previous record of 180 set last month by a team from the Manawtu Skydiving Club. With each member of the Canterbury team completing 37 jumps a new individual record was also set, the previous best being 36 by the five-man Manawtu team.
The "jump-a-thon” was held to raise money to send a New Zealand sky-diving team to the world championships in Europe in 1972. Each jump was sponsored to an average of $3 and net return of about $650 is expected. Jumping began at 6.35 a.m. and ended at 6.45 p.m. One aircraft from the Canterbury Aero ’ib was used and it took up ”p oarachutists at a time. ’♦earn, was: M. Campbell, P. i. sen, R. Sampson, R.
