Crepe de Chine In Good Gallop
“The Press’* Special Service WANGANUI. The trainer, P. H. Jones, looks set for a successful day at Wanganui this week-end. His charges Crepe De Chine, which runs In the Higgle Handicap, and the maiden, Amicos, were both In fine form in training yesterday mdrnlng. Another to please was the high-stepping sprinter. Mias, which made one of his rare appearances on the training track. Trials were held on the soft No. 1 grass with the pegs out 25 feet. Crepe De Chine found the conditions to her liking with an easy round, coming from the six furlongs in Imin 24 4-ssec, the last three taking 40 4-ssec. With last week-end's race behind her, she should be among the
hardest to beat in Saturday’s Higgle Handicap. His Lordship, which may need Saturday’s outing in the Higgle Handicap was partnered over a round by the highly promising maiden, Amicos. At the finish, Amicos was slightly ahead, taking Imin 22 2-ssec from the six furlongs, the last three in 41 2-ssec. Mias, looking a picture of fitness, went over a round, sprinting the last two in 26 4-ssec. He will be hard to beat in the Sewell Handicap. He has 101 b over the minimum or 41b more than he carried to a win at the Queen's Birthday fixture. Sewell Handicap rival, Goldy Girl, which won the first day sprint, is unlikely to fulfil her Wanganui engagement, according to the owner-trainer, Mr M. G. Podjursky. She has a much lighter poundage in the Hansen Handicap at Gisborne, and may travel to the East Coast.
