; Organisation Praised The Junior Advisory Board of the Canterbury Rugby Union had made such a good job of organising the inaugural South Island under 16 tournament that the future of the contest seemed assured. Mr S. C. Husband said at a meeting of the union’s management committee last evening. Support for subsequent tournaments had been expressed by representatives of the participating unions in Christchurch, he said. Southland had applied for the 1971 tournament and Nelson-Bays sought the 1972 contest. Mr M. R. Barnett said the per formance of the Canterbury sub-unions team was worthy of commendation and proved the wisdom of choosing a side from the country districts. The subunions team drew with Marl borough in the final. False Start. —The referee appointed for the Canterbury v. Buller Ranfurly Shield match, Mr W. Adlam, of Wanganui, arrived in Christchurch on Monday. only to discover that the game had been postponed. He will be back next week. St Rede’s Success. The Golden Jubilee Cup, awarded annually by the Canterbury Rugby Referees’ Assoication for excellence in dress and conduct, has been won by the St Bede's second XV, which plays in the secondary schools’ grade. The team gained 37.50 points. The next best sides were from the under 19 grade—Christchurch Boys’ High School first XV, 37.45, and St Bede’s first XV, 37.41.
