Probable Record

With $27,000 collected in the Christchurch metropolitan area on Saturday from the annual house-to-house Braille Week appeal for the Foundation for the Blind, the final figure, which will not be known for about a week, will probably be a record. The regional Braille Week organiser (Mr C. Fisk) said last evening that it would be safe to say that the finalfigure would exceed last year’s total of $27,588 as many country districts would make their returns during the week. He said that more than 3000 collectors were on the job on Saturday, and because of their work and the generosity of the public the appeal had been a great success.
