(N.Z Press Assn —Copyright) LONDON, July 16.
Sir Colin Crowe, now High Commissioner in Canada, has been appointed as Britain’s new chief delegate to the United Nations. Government officials said today that the appointment of a diplomat instead of a minister denoted no lessening of the regard held for the world body by the new Conservative Administration led by Mr Heath Sir Colin Crowe’s predecessor was Lord Caradon, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in the Administration of the Labour Prime Minister (Mr Harold Wilson). The new British delegate will have an ambassador's rank.
Sir Colin Crowe, who is 57, has handled some delicate missions in the past; he has been charge d'affaires in Peking and was special envoy in Cairo (after the BritishFrench attack on Suez in 1956), and he has served in Saudi Arabia, France and at the United Nations headquarters.
