CHANNEL TUNNEL
3 Groups Pool Finance
(N Z P A -Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, July 16. Three international finance groups which have been competing to raise millions of pounds to build the proposed Channel tunnel between Britain and France, have now decided to pool their resources and form a joint group.
Neivs of the merger was given by Mr Leo d'Erlanger, chairman of the Channel Tunnel Company, which has been campaigning for the tunnel for 89 years. He told reporters that the combined group had submitted new proposals to the British and French Governments for financing construction of the tunnel.
"If these proposals are accepted this year, the tunnel may be open in the late 19705,” Mr d’Erlanger said.
