OBITUARY

Mr E« N. Fitzgerald (NiZ. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. Mr E. N. Fitzgerald, one of New Zealand’s best-known racing identities, died in Gisborne at the week-end after a long illness. Mr Fitzgerald was a leading owner for many years, especially ; during the early 19405. He owned the mighty champion, Kindergarten, whose many successes ineluded the 1942 Auckland Cup with 10-2 and the 1941 Wellington Cup. Mr Fitzgerald owned many other top racehorses, among them Golden Souvenir, which won a Wellington and New Zealand Cup, Gold Scheme ! (New Zealand and Sydney Cups), and more recently, 1 Alaska, whose successes included the 1964 New Zealand , Cup at Riccarton. |
