J. L. Barr Has Likely Team For Washdyke

The Riccarton trainer, J. L. Barr, who had a highly successful Wellington winter meeting with David William, will switch his attention to the flat with a likely team at the South Canterbury Hunt Club’s meeting on Saturday.

The Barr stable will be represented in all.'four flat races on the programme. Its runners will include the promising two-year-old Meneleus and Kurd Mahal, an impressive winner in maiden company at the Ashburton winter meeting. Meneleus was beaten hands down by Igloo on the first day of the South Canterbury winter meeting, but that placing took on a more favourable look when the Wingatui

youngster went on to Trentham to win just as easily. Meneleus had his race rider, E. G. Low, up when he sprinted half a mile with Kurd Mahal (M. Skelton) and Sweet Nothings (Kerkvliet) on a well-soaked No. 1 grass at Riccarton yesterday. Meneleus picked up ground in the straight to finish alongside Kurd Mahal clear of Sweet Nothings. They took 55 for the half mile, but this was about the average for the morning. Kurd Mahal has not raced since he won at Ashburton, but he looks up to a bold bid in the Belmont Hack Handicap at Washdyke. Harold Bank, the Barr stable’s runner in the Claremont Handicap on Saturday, was paired with Quetta for half a mile yesterday. They recorded 54 4-5. Harold Bank, G. W.
