RACING Yogi Bear Today’s Cambridge Fancy

“The Press” Special Service

AUCKLAND. x

Yogi Bear, which had a narrow but convincing win at his last start at Avondale, should win the Cambridge Intermediate Handicap, first leg of the TA.B. double at the Cambridge Jockey Club’s meeting at Te Rapa today.

After drifting early in the running Yogi Bear improved over the last half mile and ran on strongly in the straight to win the mile intermediate race. At his previous start at Tauranga he ran a sound fifth, after his jockey had lost his irons. Snuggles, a winner of two races at Trentham, looks the hardest for the top-weight to beat. His efforts at Trentham could not be fualted and with a handy barrier draw he could beat Yogi Bear. Khoragan, a winner at Waipa last month before his! fast-finishing Tauranga second, looks the best of a fairly even field. Second Leg The second leg, the Leamington Handicap, looks wide open, but the last-start Avondale winner, Captain Jest, seems the likely winner. His Avondale win was a sound , effort as he was near last until just before the home turn. He was taken wide

and finished with a strong run. Monander weakened a little at Matamata but an improved showing by this promising filly would not surprise. Gold Heights improved on some fair races with a promising second to Captain Jest at Avondale. However, she would need to improve more than the 51b better terms that she meets him on today. Rosehill has run two sound races recently and a forward showing from her must be considered. A Possibility The best of the others look to be Sunwarm which, after several disappointing efforts, won well at Trentham. She weakened to seventh there at her last start but is too good to disregard. The on-course double will be on the Te Miro Hack Hurdles and the Monovale Hack Handicap.

The jackpot, with a new pool, will be run on races four to nine inclusive. The weather has been showery and the track is certain to be heavy.
