Quiet And Firm Trading On Australian Markets
Mining shares made I slight headway in slow' trading on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Most moves were marginal and there was support for selected stocks. There was little interest in the mining heavy-weights. After a firm opening Peko slipped back to 1110 c for' a 10c rise, while Western Mining, Mount Isa, New Broken Hill and Hamersley were marginally firmer. Renison fell 50c. The oils appeared a little weaker. Bridge dropped 4c, International 2c, Magellan 10c, and Ampol Exploration sc. On the industrial boards, B. Bank of N.S.W. and E.Z.I. made some headway. Losses included Austim, down sc, and Dunlop 4c. C.S.R. was a fraction firmer while Comalco closed steady after an initial upward trend. Banks were generally weaker with the exception of the Bank of Adelaide, which rose 2c. SYDNEY Sales.— Ampol, 88: Ansett, 90; A.W.A., 165; Ass.
