VIEWS ON N.Z. PLAY

Springboks Differ (From T. P. McLEAN! JOHANNESBURG. Two famous players of the 1956 Springboks in New Zealand, S. du Rand and J. Bekker, formed different impressions of the All Blacks after they had watched the match against Eastern Transvaal yesterday. Mr Bekker said: “This is a beautiful side. The way they swing the ball about is a delight. They will be very hard to beat.” Mr du Rand, coach of Northern Transvaal and noted as an expert on psychological warfare, was much more critical.

“We will scrum you into the ground,” he said. “You know nothing about scrummaging. What is more your backs can’t beat men from set play. They just pass the ball, and that’s that.

“We soon know exactly what they are going to do. All our opposing teams need [is a good No. 8 to drive Kirton wide and just keep on I driving the other backs across ithe field.”
