Volleyball Results
The competition leader. University A, was again matched against University B In a match held over from early In the year when matches In the Canierbury volleyball competition were continued this week.
Play was not up to the standard of last week but In general University B was worse in most departments. Its blocking showed deficiencies—a twoman block is necessary in plav at this level; and not enough support was given to spikers and blockers. Set-ups were not good on either side.
University B was taxed more than expected in beating University C. tn the early sets the former failed to build an attack, and University C led. However, at vital points University C slackened to lose the last three sets.
University A, fielding a strong team, unexpectedly failed to reach a good standard In beating Linwood A With a new line-up, University A experimented too soon and against a steady Linwood side did not settle down for the first two sets. Spikes were hit badly or carelessly and set-ups were poor, while the Linwood team’s good standard of recovery play enabled It to apply the greater pressure. University A were convincing winners of the last two sets.
Bryndwr showed times when Individual players showed some quality of play, but could not win against a strong Teachers’ College side. Spiking was the fault on both sides, incorrect technique being used. Serving on Bryndwr's part was valuable points at times. Placings are A Grade.—University A 25). University B 23. Linwood A 211.
