TAX REFUND DELAY

Big Influx Of Returns

An influx of returns from salary and wage earners during the week has fully taxed the Inland Revenue Department’s facilities for clearing refunds.

The district commissioner (Mr C. K. Jones) said yesterday that 10.000 returns received during the week had brought the total since the end of the financial year to 63,000. This left about 17,000 to come.

The department had already handled 40,000 returns but the sudden influx meant that some taxpayers would have to wait a month or more before they received refunds. Others would have to wait until their employers had furnished their reconciliation statements. So far 10,000 out of an expected 13,000 had been received.
