Heavy Frost
Yesterday’s frost reading of 111 degrees was the second [highest this winter, and the 'seventh frost in Christchurch ' this month, the weather office at Christchurch Airport said yesterday. The observatory in the Botanic Gardens recorded 8.5 degrees. The heaviest frost recorded in Christchurch this winter was 12 degrees on May 30.
Humanitarian On humanitarian grounds, the Canterbury Saleyards Company is closing its dip at Addington for the next five months. Announcing this yesterday. Mr J. G. Strack, a director of the company, said that they did not have the facilities at Addington to care for sheep that were dipped at this time of the year. The Department of Agriculture had approved this course. From next week lice-infested sheep would not be sold and would be returned to the vendors, Mr Strack said. The dip will be closed until October 31.
Skyhawk Flight Royal New Zealand Air Force Skyhawks will be seen over Blenheim at 11.35 a.m. today and over Nelson at 11.45 a.m.. weather permitting.
Diamond Jubilee The New Zealand Friesian Association, founded in Palmerston North on June 23, 1910, will celebrate its diamond jubilee in Christchurch from June 19 to June 23. I (PA.)
