Second-Best Betting
The Ashburton Trotting Club, on Monday had its second highest on-course turnover for the second day of a winter meeting. However, the record, of $149,350, established in 1949, was before the start of legal off-course betting. Monday’s total of $140,376 is only the second to exceed $140,000 at a winter meeting. In 1967 the club handled $138,781 on the second day of its winter meeting.
On-course betting on the two days of the meeting increased $69,526 over last -year, and offcourse the total was up $43,541. ensuring the club of a most profitable season.
