Men’s Hockey Games Changed To Sundays

Two representative men’s hockey fixtures will be played on Sundays so that inter-club competitions will not be affected.

The Nelson - Canterbury match will be played on June 14 and the West Coast-Ash-burton game on August 9. The Canterbury Hockey Association’s management committee was told at a meeting this week of the acceptance of Sunday play by the other three associations.

The chairman (Mr T. I. Crossen) said that delegates from the three associations had been approached at the recent meeting in Christchurch of the New Zealand Hockey Association and had agreed to Canterbury’s proposal that the games be played on Sundays. The committee was told that 94 teams bad entered the Canterbury association’s competitions this season, an increase of two on last year. The entries came from 30 clubs, an increase of one. The following representative selectors were appointed for the coming season:— Senior, Mr C. V. Walter: senior reserve, Mr N. Little; colts. Mr J. Bate: second grade, Mr R. van Ysselstein: fourth grade, Mr D. White; secondary schools, Mr J. Bowden; under 16, Mr A. Roberts; under 14, Mr G. Gib. son; under 12, Mr P. Greenwood.
