Redpath exploded into action in the Australians’ final match of their South African tour to speed a declaration at 417 for nine 11P their first innings. At the close on the opening day, Orange Free State was 11 for no wicket. Redpath completed his second tour century by driving H. Rosendorff through the covers for four. Then the 28-year-old Victorian let rip with four successive sixes and two fours in one over against the luckless Rosendorff. This was the first time in I South Africa that 32 runs (have been scored off a six-ball 'over in first-class cricket.
Redpath hit two more sixes, : making his last 50 runs in 12 minutes, before Rosendorff took his revenge with a return catch against the Australian opener. Redpath hit a total of six sixes and 19 ! fours. Redpath and I. R. Chappell (71) shared a second-wicket stand of 121, adding their first 100 runs together in 56 min-i
utes before Chappell, who hit one six and 10 fours, was caught off R. Key, who finished with four for 115. A. P. Sheahan also joined the Australians’ final batting fling with a half-century scored in 98 minutes, including two sixes and two fours. Chappell declared the Australians’ innings after 283 minutes, and R. Van Der Poll and A. Oertel opened the Orange Free State reply beI fore bad light ended play.
