First Time In S.I.

The 1970-71 South Pacific Javelin class yachting championships will be held at Lyttelton from December 26 until January 4. The series will be the first international contest to be held in the South Island. Yachtsmen from New Zealand, Australia and Fiji decided after the last Pacific series in Australia to grant the championships to this country. Lyttelton was decided upon as the venue by postal ballot, beating Auckland by 30 votes to 22. The winner of the championship will receive the Air New Zealand Trophy.
