Stablemates Chased Euripydies Home

Euripydies was the stumbling block for two strong fancies from the Riccarton Thistoll stable in the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Pareora Handicap yesterday. Euripydies just lasted for a nose victory over Pseudonym,! whose stablemate Allspice! ■came from last with a bril-! Jiant run for third. Euripydies completed an ; on-course double with Autoibank worth 529.65. The Autobank Pseudonym combination returned a concession double dividend of 56.50. Autobank won the Malvern; i High-weight by a head after 'a hard slog with Mon Amour! i inside the last furlong. Mon Amour moved from a trailing position to be nicely: clear about a furlong and a! half out but he could not pro-1 duce anything extra to copel with Autobank's challenge/ which proved effective in the) past stride. Autobank, a seven-year-old

gelding from W. Turner’s stable, was runner-up to Trelay in the corresponding race on the first day of the meeting. Chota, which ran most of lhe race on the outside of j Mon Amour, could not make the same progress from the home turn, but was never in danger of losing third a i length and a half back. Sunny Filou was fourth in ,a gap of four lengths, and ■ two lengths clear of Faraday which, as usual, drifted to the tail of the field early, and was still far back on the home turn. No excuses could be made ;for the others except, perhaps, for Sir Limond, which ! came back lame. JUST LASTED Euripydies earned his win. in the Pareora Handicap after! a meritorious fourth in the! corresponding race on the) [first day of the meeting. But lit was a near thing for Messrs! J. R. Pitcaithly’s and A.) Scott's Alcimedes colt which had only a nose to spare from

the faster-finishing Pseu-I donym. Both Pseudonym, and Allspice, which was a length back fourth, did well to re turn place dividends. Half-) way through the race they were giving away long starts to the tearaway pacemaker,; Janet Leigh, and also to Euripydies. Pseudonym had reached second position just inside’ the furlong, but at that stage he did not look likely to run the winner as close as he did. Allspice charged through gaps in the field in her big run from last—a perform-) ance that held the brightest! prospects for her future as! a middle-distance performer. 1
