Good Season Likely For Dried Fruit

The 1970 season for Australian currants, sultanas, and raisins is considered most promising, according to reports received from the Co-operative Dried Fruit Sales Proprietary, Ltd. New-crop currants and sultanas are expected towards the end of next month, and raisins are due late in April. Recently a survey of production areas was made. The organisation reports that the currant crop is developing well. If the weather remains favourable, buyers’ full requirements should be met, and quotas will not have to be imposed.

A large crop of high-quality sultanas is expected if the weather holds until harvesting is finished. There has been no material damage to the fruit.

It is too early to estimate the raisin crop because the fruit matures later than currants and sultanas. Apparently the vines are not bearing as well as the other fruits. Ironing Aid.— Reckitt and Colman iN.Z.i, Ltd. is now releasing a new aerosol product. Fabulon. designed to make ironing easier and to give a fresh finish to any material that can be washed and ironed. The recommended retail price for the 16oz can is 89c.

English Salt. — Because nf increased costs the prices of many of the more popular brands of iodised salt packed in England have been revised

Recent quotations suggest that the price increase will be about lc to 2c a pound.

Disinfectant Pack.—The'manufacturers of Pine-o-ciean disinfectant are putting two other products, Lavender and Nice-n-Spice. into a special display pack containing one and two dozen bottles. While these are 01 ?„ display all three products will be 6c cheaper. The suggested retail price will be 40c a bottle. Ceylon Tea.— Consignments of tea were shut out when the Chakrata sailed from Ceylon. Arrangements have been made in Ceylon to have the cargo shipped to Singapore for transshipment on the Barpetra. This move will reduce the possibility of a shortage because of the late arrival at the end of April of the next consignments of tea. New Blue Pack.— The manufacturers of Reckitt’s liquid blue have advised that they will introduce a new formula for their product. A 6oz plastic container will replace the old 4oz glass bottle. The suggested retail price will be 27c.
