Journalism Scholarship
Mr J. Tully, of Christchurch, at present on the staff of the “Auckland Star,” has been awarded the Robert Bell Travelling Scholarship for a graduate of the University of Canterbury's course in journalism.
The scholarship has a value of $l2OO and enables the holder to study news media overseas.
The scholarship has a condition that the holder should interest himself in subjects of value to New Zealand’s farming industry. Mr Tully will travel in South-East Asia and will study in particular Malaysia, Hong Kong and Japan. He is particularly interested in studying breeding, and the potential market for New Zealand thoroughbreds. He also hopes to work on newspapers in the area. Mr Tully graduated B.A at Canterbury in 1968, and gained his diploma of journalism last year. The scholarship is for one year, and he will be accompanied by his wife, who is also a graduate of the journalism course.
