Two Record Swims

Two Canterbury records and three national qualifying times were broken by Commonwealth Games trialists in swimming trials in Christchurch last even-

ing. G. Walker broke his own Canterbury record for the men’s 110 yards freestyle with a time of 58.6 sec, and B. Lewis broke the boys under 14 110 yards breaststroke by 3.lsec, record: ing Imin 21.2 sec.

As well as breaking the record, Walker bettered the national qualifying time for the 110 yards, and also for the 880 yards men’s freestyle in a time of 9min 23.8 sec. The women’s 880 yards freestyle qualifying time was beaten by S. Hunter in lOmin 40.1 sec while C. Whiting bettered the women’s 110 yard freestyle time in Im in 6.lsec.
