100 On Hunger Fast In U.S.
(N.Z.P.A.'Reuter—Copyright) HAYWARD (California), October 13. More than 100 people in Hayward have spent their first full day fasting behind a plastic fence in an experiment to demonstrate the effect of the world’s over-population problem. They entered the closed-off circular area in a car park and vowed not to eat for a week. Their “hunger show” was to have taken place inside a giant plastic bag, but the local fire chief ruled that out as a fire hazard. The demonstrators, who have access to drinking water and to toilet facilities, will be considered “dead” if hunger forces them out of the enclosure before the week is out. “At the moment, they’re just lying around, basking in the sun,” a Hayward police spokesman said. “It looks like a real nice demonstration.” Children, and people with illnesses needing treatment, were barred from joining in the experiment
Well Depth.—Shell. BP and Todd Oil Services, Ltd, announced on Monday that their well Maui 2, which was spudded in on October 5, had reached 3611ft.—(PA.).
