Family Declines State Funeral
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 25. The Attorney-General (Mr Hanan) will not be given a State funeral because of the wishes of Mrs Hanan and her family, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) announced tonight
Mrs Hanan has also equested that no formal ireaths be sent Mr Holyoake said he had iscussed possibilities for the meral arrangements by tele-
phone with Mrs Hanan, who is in Australia, but no 4nal decisions could be made until she returned to Wellington. A Royal Australian Air Force B.A.C. 111 will fly Mr Hanim’s body to Wellington tomorrow from Sydney. Mr Hanan’s wife will travel on the same aircraft She will be accompanied by the New Zealand consular officer in Sydney (Miss A. Ross), and Mr Hanan’s private secretary (Miss E. M. Mansfield). The funeral possibilities being considered were a small funeral service at All Saints’ Church, Invercargill, on the morning of Tuesday, July 29, to be followed by a public memorial service in the Civic Theatre at 1.30 p.m. A memorial service could still be held in St Paul’s Cathedral, Wellington.
