Health Services
Sir, Medical benefits, which should be free to' all by right, for all pay social security tax, are now to be doled out according to economic status. The means test means the investigation of our private affairs, our private property, and our savings. In the great depression, unemployment relief brought an army of means-test snoopers, and the poor were told to spend their savings and sell their pianos an’’ wall-to-wall carpets before expecting help. A Labour Government introduced social security for all, and put an end to this, but now the rot sets in. The National Government claims to support freedom for the individual, but it really wants freedom for the privileged to exploit others. Old people and invalids had better start spending all their savings and hiding their television sets, for here come the Government . means-test inspectors.—Yours, etc., VARIAN J. WILSON.
