Flower Exports?

Sir, —I have noticed some correspondence from the growers of flowers expressing discontent with the sale of their blooms on the local markets. Surely, at a time when New Zealand is trying to open all avenues for overseas trade, the flower industry should not be overlooked. I remember reading the press some three years ago that Mr J. A. Hollows, of Palmerston North, had flown some 20 dozen chrysanthemum blooms into the Sydney markets, but I regret that I have learned nothing since of the success or failure of this venture. Surely in New Zealand, where most growers are within easy reach of an airport, the problems involved are not insurmountable. Our strawberries have gone down well overseas. Why not our flowers?— Yours, etc., MARGARET SPIVEY. Geraldine, May 13, 1969.
