PAN PACIFIC GAMES
One Coach Not Sufficient A motion expressing disappointment in the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association’s action in calling for nominations for only one coach to accompany the New Zealand team to the Pan Pacific Games at Tokyo in September was passed at last evening’s executive meeting of the Canterbury centre of the association. The association has called for nominations for a manager, an assistant-manager, a women’s manager, a coach, and a person to be responsible for food. Mr P. D. Brown said it amazed him that the biggest athletic team to leave New Zealand should have the services of only one coach. The team will have 35 members.
“It is the same old story.” said Mr Brown. “One coach and four hangers-on. It would be better to drop the assistantmanager in favour of another coach.”
Other members expressed the view that with such a large team of mixed sexes one coach would be insufficient and that coaching in general would benefit by the experience gained by a second person. The chairman (Mr B. H. Kerr) said that it was purely nominal to discuss the matter now. and on his suggestion the motion was changed from disapproval of the N.Z.A.A.A.’s action to disappointment.
