Farmers And Millers
Sir, —Once again the blame for over-production has been placed on the farmers. In an effort to reach self-suffi-ciency in wheat production, for the good of the nation, and faced with increasing costs and a non-interest-mak-ing withholding payment, critics such as your correspondent, “Miller,” are placing the disposal problem on the wrong party. Over the last few seasons harvest yields have increased substantially. Most farmers have faced this increased production factor by investing large amounts of capital on storage facilities. Now it is up to the millers to stop passing the buck and to increase their storage facilities in an attempt to help alleviate this problem.—Yours, etc., A. R. MACDONALD. Lincoln, March 17, 1969.
