Art Gallery
Sir, Like "Thinking Ahead”, I have been considering the future of our city's neo-Gothic buildings. With the development of our other public places such as Hagley Park and “Mona Vale,” it is desirable that our more cultural assets receive attention, too. “Thinking Ahead” suggests the expansion of the museum and the McDougall Art Gallery into speciallybuilt annexes. Surely it would be more appropriate for these to expand into the present University of Canterbury buildings on Rolleston Avenue. Although still occupied,
[these buildings are supposed to be vacant in the near future. This, of course, is out of the council’s hands, but if it is prepared to wait, this may prove a more amenable solution.—Yours, etc., CLIVE HILTON. March 17, 1969.
