Amberley Medical Practice
Sir,—When I left Amberley I wanted to make, but did not make, a public statement on medical services in the district. I shall now have to make a statement as Cr T. A. May has had the audacity to state that I demanded a surgery. This is completely incorrect, as before I even thought of coming to Amberley the plans for a combined surgery and library were completed. Second, he states that I left “after five minutes.” I was resident doctor in Amberley for about 7] months —a practice which had deteriorated after three months without a resident doctor. I could not, for several reasons, “afford” to remain in that area, having three children to educate, etc. Most other doctors have similar problems. One cannot afford to “rot” in a sleepy hollow. Might I take this opportunity to thank all those very kind, appreciative, and faithful patients who did support me? To the others, the best of luck.—Yours, etc., (Dr) J. G. WALKINSHAW. Turangi, March 15, 1969.
