BAGDAD TRIAL

(N,.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) DAMASCUS (Syria), Feb. 22. Nine Iraqis, including a former Cabinet Minister, will reportedly go on trial before a State security court in Bagdad tonight on a charge of plotting to overthrow the Iraqi regime. The Egyptian Middle East News Agency reported from Bagdad the nine were arrested last September. They are accused of attempting a coup d'etat only 70 days after President Ahmed Hassan el Bakr’s Socialist Ba’ath Party seized power. Brigadier Abdul Hadi el Rawi, a former army division commander who served as Minister of Youth Affairs for five months during 1967, is accused of master-minding the abortive coup. The eight other defendants included an active army captain, the agency said.
