Israeli Reprisals
Sir.—My admiration for the Israelis is comparable to that which one feels for the terrier barking at a Great Dane. I would like to remind Peter Watson that the Israelis rightly regard Palestine as their traditional homeland as laid down in the Bible. They believe that God helps them who help themselves and get on with their job of finding a secure living for their people. The Arabs, on the other hand, accept their fate and wait for others to put matters right for them. If Nasser and his collaborators had the right attitude, 1 venture to suggest that the refugees would long ago have been resettled in Arab lands, and by diligence and enthusiasm they also would be flourishing. The Israelis have repeatedly offered to meet the Arabs to draw up a peace treaty but. so far, their offers have been rejected.—Yours, O. PICTON JONES. January 6, 1969;
