Good Run By Jen Hai
“The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Jen Hai and Hamua worked splendidly at Woodville yesterday in preparation for the Pahiatua Cup. So far their trainer, S. A. Brown, has not decided which horse will run.
Galloping on the course proper, Jen Hai led Hamua, Noir Filou and Cotehele at the end of a mile in Imin 50 l-ssec, the last three furlongs in 41 l-ssec. But Noir Filou and Cotehele started off two seconds behind the others and finished only two lengths from Jen Hai at the end of the gallop. Hamua drifted back in the middle stages and ran on strongly near the end. Noir Filou is getting ready for the Sonny Smith Memorial and Wellington Cup. In each he will be ridden by R. B. Marsh. This will free W. D. Skelton to ride Loofah again at Trentham. Meanwhile, G. Willetts is due from Matamata to ride His Lordship in the Pahiatua Cup. He has been booked for Spring Filou in the big twomiler at the Wellington meeting this this has left His Lordship without a cup rider. His Lordship, which arrived at Woodville a week ago, worked at speed yesterday, clocking 52sec for half a mile with Renegue. His trainer, P. H. Jones, was pleased with the effort, saying that His Lordship takes very little fast work to keep him in trim.
Damar. Calm Comet and Odeon were at Woodville, but they did not work at speed. No rider has been engaged for Damar in the Pahiatua Cup, and it is likely that N. D. Landers will be on Calm Comet.
