SIR ARTHUR PORRITT

Five-Day Visit To Antartic The Governor-General (Sir Arthur Porritt) and his two sons Jonothan and Jeremy, flew to the Antarctic yesterday for a five-day visit. They left Christchurch Airport at 8 a.m. aboard a United States Navy Super Constellation and were due at McMurdo Station at 5 p.m. At the airport Sir Arthur Porritt was met by the commander of the United States Antarctic support force (RearAdmiral J. L. Abbot) and the .airport manager (Mr A. I. R. Jamieson). During his stay in the Antarctic Sir Arthur Porritt will open the New Zealand station at Vanda after visiting Scott Base.

Sir Arthur Porritt’s guides will be Admiral Abbot’s aide (Lieutenant J. B. Clark) and the superintendent of the Antarctic Division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (Mr R. B. Thomson). The party will return to Christchurch about 4 p.m. on I Friday.
