Councillor Asks For Revised Committees
He was not entirely happy with the balance of new and old council members on the major committees, Cr G. C. Adams told the Lyttelton Borough Council last evening. He moved that the present construction of the new council’s committees be dispensed with, and that the committees be amended according to, a list which he bad prepared. His motion was seconded by Cr J. B. Hughes. Cr Adams, who is chairman of the town planning committee, said he was quite happy to do away with his own chairmanship. The new members of the council could learn from the old members, he said.
Cr R. H. Duff expressed disappointment ait Cr Adams’s attitude, and Cr 1 G. Henderson said it was an insult to the Mayor (Mr J. B. Collett). Cr Adams denied this. He was supported by Cr J. L. Baines,
who objected to Cr Henderson’s remarks. It was decided on the motion of Cr Duff to hold the matter over for consideration by the full council before the next regular meeting. Appeals.—An appeal for assistance from the Wellington Lifeboat Institution was referred to the finance committee as was a request for a grant received from the Canterbury Progress League. Damaged Walls.—A letter was received from solicitors concerning claims for damaged retaining walls on private properties at the port It was referred to the works committee for investigation. Building Offered.—The Lyttelton Harbour Board had
offered the council the Time Ball Station at Lyttelton East on a lease basis for possible use as a museum, subject to certain conditions the council was told. Further inquiries would be made, it was decided.
