ELECTION IN FIJI
Voters All Indians <N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright! SUVA, Sept. 9. Nine members of the opposition Federation Party have been returned with increased majorities in elections for Indian communal seats in the j Legislative Council of Fiji. The nine seats became vacant as the result of a walkout by Federation Party members a year ago, after their leader, Mr A. D. Patel, had moved a motion calling for a new constitution based on a one man one-vote system ef election covering all races in Fiji. In the by-elections there was a straight-out contest for each seat between the predominantly Indian Federation Party and the multi-racial governing Alliance Party. The voters were all Indians. Two of the alliance candidates lost their deposits, and for every seat the Federation Party vote was greater than it was in the 1966 General Election.
