Malaysian’s Fine Victory
The Malaysian, Ling Nan Ming (Avonside I) had a belated but welcome return to form last evening when he beat V. N. Brightwell (Selwyn I) for the first time, during the fourteenth round of the A grade inter-club table tennis competition.
Ling Nan Ming kept the ball on Brightwell’s slightly slower forehand side as much as possible to win 19-21, 21-18 21-19. With the national tournament only three days away, this win should have boosted Ling Nan Ming’s confidence. Hoon Hay is still two points in front. The team was not extended to beat Wallabies, 8-4. As has been its trend this season, Hoon Hay threw away some of its doubles matches.
Selwyn II had only its third win of the season when it beat Avonside 11, 7-5. This was Avonside's best opportunity to register its only win of the season.
J. E. Kyle (Linwood ID continued to worry the South Island representatives when he tested J. Armstrong (Riccarton). He built, up a valuable 14-8 lead in the decided but Armstrong closed the game up to win 21-18.
