Changes May Upset Grand Prix Circuit
(New Zealand Press Association)
AUCKLAND.
Motor racing promoters in New Zealand, in Australia and in South Africa are standing by in case the whole of the Tasman championship series is thrown out of gear by another change in the date of the South African Grand Prix.
They will have to wait until mid-September before the dates of eight races in January and February next year are known by the meeting of the Commission Sportive Internationale.
Everything hinges on the date of the South African Grand Prix. Traditionally held round January 1, it was shifted for this year to March, after the Tasman series. The seven-race series had been scheduled to start at Pukekohe with the Grand Prix on January 4, running through to January 25. If South Africa is forced to revert to January 1, the New Zealand series of four races, and the next three in Australia, will all have to move back a week to a January 11 start. One club likely to benefit if the dates go back will be Levin, since Monday, January 20, is the Wellington provincial anniversary day. The main events would be run
that day instead of the preceding Saturday, which could then become a fullscale practice day.
