J. Barrington (Britain) showed brilliant form in the first round of the men’s singles of the Australian amateur squash championships. He beat B. Evans (Western Australia) in straight sets, conceding one point. D. Burmeister (New Zealand) was taken to five sets before winning a 90-minute match against E. Russel (Victoria). Another New Zealander, J. Isaacs, beat D. Bennet (Western Australia) in straight sets - „ , C. Waugh (New Zealand) was beaten by C. Nancarrow (New South Wales, third seed) in four sets.
