Nominations For Panel

Three former international team-mates, Messrs D. L. Blanchard (Canterbury), G. Menzies (West Coast), and M. W. H. Robertson (Auckland), have been nominated by the Canterbury Rugby League Board of Control at national selectors for the 1969 season.

Mr Blanchard, a present New Zealand selector and the coach of the 1957 Kiwis in Australia, represented New Zealand from 1951 until 1955; Mr Menzies, the present West Coast selector and coach, played in 28 tests between 1951 and 1961, and another former Kiwi coach, Mr Robertson, was a Kiwi from 1946 until 1951.

All three were - members of the 1951-52 Kiwi team that toured Great Britain and France.

Four other nominations were received by the board from clubs —Messrs J. E. Bond (Canterbury), M. W. Church (Wellington), W. F. McNaughtan (Canterbury), and N. L. Denton (Auckland). The nominations were decided on the first ballot.

The New Zealand council will appoint the national selectors at its meeting next Tuesday evening. They will be charged with naming the Kiwi team to travel to the world championship series in Britain and France and one member of the panel will travel with the team as coach.
