STAKES TO WINFREUX
Galilee Runs Third (N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) MELBOURNE. Galilee made a promising start to another campaign with a third to Winfreux in the J. J. Liston Stakes (7f.) at Sandown Park on Saturday. Winfreux led all the way to win by three lengths from Shorengro, with Galilee a similar distance away. Craftsman came home well, to finish fourth, followed by the New Zealand-breds, Future and Agena.
Wlnfreux's win, his twenty, sixth in 59 starts, took his earnings to more than $138,000.
Winfreux is entered for the Caulfield Cup. Galilee, which made up a tremendous amount of ground in th# last two furlongs, could again be a threat in the big spring cups. When hie jockey, J. Miller, let him go, Galilee stretched out in the same style that won him the 1966 Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup, and the 1967 Sydney Cup. It was Galilee’, first rece since winning the Sydney Cup, and he showed no sign of the leg injury he suffered in that race. Since then he has had two operation, on his near foreleg, and there were feer, at one time that he would never race again.
