Rajah Derby Favourite
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Carrtsponilent) SYDNEY. Rajah established himself as early favourite for the SSO.OOO A.J.C. Derby, which will this year become Australia’s second richest race, when he won the Hobartvillo Stakes <7f.) at Warwick Farm on Saturday. The Star Kingdom three-year-old, which started equal favourite, was most impressive In beating a Held of smart colts >on a heavy track. He reached,the front halfway down the straight, and went on to win by a length and a half from High Sierra, with Nagamble three-quarters of a length away third. The other equal favourite, Royal Parma, disappointed and beat only one horse—the 50/1 New Zealand-bred outsider, Wilton Park—home in the field of six.
Cardiff Prince pleased his connections with a fast finishing fourth.
Shield Winner,—Dunedin won the Kohn Shield in the transriort Rugby tournament by beatng Wellington, 11-0, at Dunedin yesterday. For the third and fourth places Christchurch beat Auckland. 5-0.
